The Personal Support Unit (PSU) is a charity supporting unrepresented people at the courts within the Manchester Civil Justice Centre. This innovative new project is the first of its kind outside London, and has opportunities available for calm, practical and outgoing people interested in volunteering at court.

The prestigious Civil Justice Centre is the largest courts to be built since the Royal Courts of Justice in London in 1881, and is situated within the Spinningfields development in the heart of the city centre.

Volunteers will be trained to give assistance to people who for various reasons don’t have lawyers but need practical and emotional support.

You will need to be someone who can deal with people on all levels and who has initiative, a common sense approach, and the ability to empathise with people going through a difficult time. You do not need any formal qualifications, but life experience and the ability to read and write English are essential. Travel and lunch expenses are provided.

If you are interested in volunteering and can spare two days a month, please contact Sarah Harris on 0161 2405037 or e-mail: manchester@thepsu.co.uk.
